Meanwhile in the Redverse…  (part 7) - The Wait

When Lincoln and Liv found out she was pregnant, they didn’t know if to be happy or terrified. They weren’t expecting it, first of all. Liv had told Lincoln about the Viral Propagated Eclampsia, and how her sister and her baby died because of it, so they had decided not to take risks, at least until there were advances in therapy against the virus. That’s why Lincoln started taking the male pill (Liv was terrible to remember to take any medications, so Lincoln decided to do it). But no contraception is 100% effective, and they were proof of that. The ghost of the VPE was strongly present, since Liv had 80% chances to be a carrier herself. So the first thing they did after confirming the pregnancy, was to take all the tests necessary. Against their hopes and wishes, Liv was indeed carrier for the virus.

Those were the hardest months for the couple since they got together. Liv wanted to be strong, but the truth was she was terrified. She had one or two breakdowns through the process, and that’s how she learned her husband was the greatest emotional support she could have ever wished for.  Lincoln tried to stay positive, and he frequently found himself daydreaming about his son/daughter, and how could he learn to be a good father. But deep down he was just as much or even more afraid than Liv. There were chances he could lose both his wife and his child, and that was simply an unbearable thought for him.

Walternate talked to them about a procedure called “accelerated pregnancy” , that was still in study phase, but that could help avoid the effects of the virus. After discussing it, both Lincoln and Liv decided against it. The procedure was something new, it hadn’t been tried yet, so there was no certainty about its safety and if it could work at all.

They were left with no other choice but wait, and hope everything would turn out well.

At the end, the baby was born a few weeks before due, but both mother and child were completely healthy. They decided to call him Trevor.

Walternate hypothesized that maybe Lincoln’s genes, being him from another world where the virus didn’t exist (for a reason), might have helped suppress the damage it should have caused on  both Liv and Trevor.
